Abstract
Zinc plating of carbon steel is one of the most widespread method of corrosion protection. This thesis deals with a metal pipe of low-carbon steel with zinc coating on which an undesirable dark areas and spots were formed.
The theoretical part is focused on the types of corrosion, characteristics and evaluation of anti-corrosion coatings based on zinc. The experimental part contains the results of exposure tests on samples taken from a pipe in a neutral salt spray and condensation chamber with the addition of sulfur dioxide. The task was to determine whether the darker areas reduces the corrosion resistance of materials. Using metallographic analysis were also identified structure and thickness of the zinc coating, respectively layers. The final section describes the precautions and recommendations which should lead to avoid dark areas of zinc.
