Abstract

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to create a cast of a vase based on the author’s design, with an emphasis on its function and aesthetic appearance. The vase was inspired by an hourglass, to which it refers both in form and symbolism. Technologies not commonly used in the field of artistic casting were employed in its production. These primarily involved the use of the MagmaSoft simulation program and the use of chemically bonded molding mixtures for the production of molds and cores. In its analysis of the current state of knowledge, this thesis examines vessels and vases from the perspective of design over the centuries and the technology of their production, taking into account the materials used. The practical section of this thesis describes the individual steps involved in the design and production of the vase itself, from initial sketches through the creation of models and molds to casting and final finishing.
