Abstract

The objective of bachelor thesis was design and realization of a laboratory exercise oriented on artificial bloodstream (haemodialysis). Haemodialysis is a process, when the harmful waste products of metabolism (urea, creatine, excess ions, water etc.) are removed from blood by using of dialysis machine. As to the dialysis itself, the 2008 E FRESENIUS haemodialysis machine is utilized. The suggested laboratory exercise consists of five tasks. The students are to learn how to operate the dialysis machine, prepare it for dialysis, perform the dialysis itself and evaluate its efficiency. The process itself is acetate dialysis when the copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate (blue vitriol) solution is used instead of blood. Quantitative evaluation of dialysis efficiency is based on determination of blue vitriol concentration before and after the process. The concentration is determined from photometric measurement of (optical absorbance) sample liquid. The obtained values are then used for calculation of dialysis efficiency.
