Abstract

Summary: The thesis deals with the issue of mine air and its possible control and monitoring to ensure the work safety for mine workers and the safety of mining operations to prevent accidents or other extraordinary events. It describes the different constituents of mine air, permissible exposure limits in toxic gases, the lower explosive limits in explosive gases and their physiological effects on humans. Next, the thesis lists the basic available metering devices for the indication and detection of different gas used in the company Ostravsko Karvinské Doly (OKD), including the application of gas chromatography to analyse mine air. The next section deals with mine air legislation. This includes means used to monitor mine air, including their principles, both in personal portable analysers, used primarily for the user’s personal safety, as well as stationary analysers that ensure the safety of the whole mine. The thesis also describes mine air sampling, and the sampling procedures. The thesis concludes with evaluations.
