Building Information Model on the example of an existing building on the VŠB - TUO

Abstract

Building Information Modelling (BIM) became one of the most used methods to achieve the digitization in the Architectural, Engineering, Construction (AEC) Industry. BIM placed a significant mark in the Engineering world, and it is leading the whole construction industry towards the future. Furthermore, BIM gives wide support for the existing buildings too. It offers way more benefits and digitization of the existing building which can be used for facility management, reconstruction, documentation and for future needs. The multi-purpose sports hall of VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava is one of the old buildings inside the University area. Since it is a old building it needs BIM implementation to facility management, future renovation, reconstruction, maintenance works. The exisiting documentation was digitized and used to create 2D CAD files. From those 2D CAD files the 3D model has been created. Software tools like AutoCAD, Revit, Raster Design has been used to achieve the BIM model. This process involved designing various building elements to ensure an accurate representation of the structure. Standard Non-Graphical Information Model (SNIM) is used to maintain consistency, interoperability and compatibility with industry practices and facilitates collaboration among professionals involved in maintenance and management. The model will be saved in Common Data Environment (CDE) and can be used for future needs.
