Abstract

The main aim of this diploma thesis is to internationally compare consumer attitudes to food quality characteristics. Two countries were chosen for the comparison, the Czech Republic and Finland. The partial objective of the thesis is to analyze the most usual and preferred places for buying food in the Czech Republic and in Finland. The theoretical chapter of the thesis defines consumer behavior, food quality and quality characteristics. The following chapter characterizes current food market in the Czech Republic and in Finland. Within individual markets, the country's foreign trade of food, food consumption, retailing and the current food quality situation are examined. The core part of the thesis is analysis of data which were collected from Czech and Finnish consumers on the basis of electronic questionnaire. The main method of data analysis is factor analysis that has as the main purpose reduction of quality characteristics of selected food categories, i.e. yoghurts and sausages. On the basis of international differences, recommendations were made for food manufacturers and marketers.
