Abstract
The work is dealing with the study of binders composed of latent hydraulic matters. As raw materials for mixes preparation were chosen by-products from the power-station and metallurgical industry supplemented with calcined clay. It concerns the granulated blast furnace slag, fly ash and metakaolin. For activation of hydraulic properties of these matters was used alkali activator – commercially produced silicate water glass modified for requirements of the research with addition of NaOH. The advantage of slag and fly ash utilization for binding systems preparation is their easy accessibility and low price because they are being formed as byproduct, hereby their energy and environmental intensity is decreasing in comparison to the conventional hydraulic binders.
The work evaluates the binding systems from slag itself as well as the combination with fly ash and metakaolin. Hydrating systems are studied under normal conditions, i.e. at ambient temperature and also at elevated temperatures up to 1000 °C. To describe the running processes and characterization of hydration products were used common analyses used in this branch (measurements of volume changes, compression strength measurements, XRD diffraction analysis, FTIR spectrometry and MAS NMR analysis) as well as pH measurement for study of the process of hydrating system behavior in initial hydration phases.
