Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with the influence of urbanization on water quality in small surface streams, with a focus on the occurrence of microplastics. The selected study sites were the Porubka stream in the Czech Republic and the Mula stream in Spain. Water samples were collected at selected sampling sites with different levels of anthropogenic influence. The samples were analysed for physicochemical parameters and the presence of microplastics. The monitored parameters included basic water quality indicators, water quality classification according to ČSN 75 7221, the number and concentration of microplastics, their material composition and dimensions. The results showed spatial and seasonal differences between the sampling sites. In the Porubka stream, higher pollution levels were often observed in more urbanized sections of the stream, while in the Mula stream the influence of agricultural land use was also evident. The thesis confirms that small watercourses can be significantly affected by local pollution sources and may serve as
pathways for the transport of microplastics.
