Abstract
The main aim of this thesis is the optimization of a secondary cooling of continuous casting machine for casting of round steel billets using new cooling nozzles. The secondary cooling significantly affects the quality of continuous cast round formats and thus a considerable extent and efficiency of the entire production facility.
Introduction of the thesis is briefly devoted to a history and to a current production of steel with an outline of further development of steel metallurgy, not only in Czech Republic but also from a global perspective.
In the steelmaking theory, the basic principle of continuous casting is described with a brief description of each part of the continuous casting machine. The classification of defects of continuously cast billets arising mainly due to imperfect synchronization of the casting conditions and the parameters of the secondary cooling are also mentioned. The work is supplemented with new directions and knowledge from the world literature.
The own experiment relates with a substitution of the original cooling nozzles of the secondary cooling by new nozzles with better parameters of the spray system. The practical part contains the original simulation of the quality of the spray system characteristics of the new nozzles, the description of two experiments and the subsequent evaluation of the achieved results.
