Abstract

This diploma thesis focuses on laboratory preparation and subsequent description of sulfur-intercalated natural clay minerals, namely vermiculite and montmorillonite, be it with the additive of a conductive component or without it. The type of clay mineral, the temperature during dry intercalation and the chosen conductive component all influence the resulting characteristics of end product material. Two groups of specimen were prepared. In the first case, clay mineral was used and intercalated by sulfur, in the second case, carbonaceous material was added (nanotubes, carbon black, graphene oxide). The resulting powder specimens were analyzed via X-ray diffraction, scanned with an electron microscope and the size of their particles and electric parameters were measured. The goal of the thesis was to prepare and describe a composite powder with a sulfur-clay or sulfur-carbon-clay base.
