Abstract
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the issue of flexible optical access networks, particularly the hybrid topologies WDM/TDM and to point out their advantages and future proof. The study explains the basics regarding passive optical networks and components used in the topology, and is divided into 3 main parts resulting from the task.
The first part, comprising chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4, presents the technologies WDM and TDM, their combinations and components used for fibre lines.
The second part, focused on simulation of the topology in Optiwave 9, is adumbrated in chapters 5 and 6. The former indicates a justification for usage of particular components and describes total topology configuration, eventual problems arisen during the simulation and their eventual solutions. The latter shows parameters measured in the topology, and analyses performances, power losses and other parameters influencing and determining the quality of the signal transmission.
The third and at the same time the last part of the thesis consists of animations illustrating basic functions of WDT, TDM and WDM/TDM networks.
