Abstract

This work has been written to support fire brigades and its aim is to acquaint firemen with the problems of an intervention connected with the presence of ammonia. In the introductory part there is information on ammonia properties, its production, industrial use, effects on the human body and the procedure of giving first aid. The second part is focused on the identification of dangerousness. Safety marks and symbols including R and S-sentences are described and depicted here. In addition to this, the possibilities of vehicle marking when transporting ammonia are stated in this part. The third part deals with the protection of the intervening firemen against the negative effects of ammonia and the ways of its possible detection. Several protective means with a brief description are mentioned here. The fourth part describes the proceedings of fire brigades during an event connected with ammonia leak. The division of the intervention place and the description of particular working sites are stated here. Moreover, places of possible interventions and their outlined proceedings are described. Last two parts deal with the evaluation of real interventions and the end of the work.
