Abstract

This work deals with the study of structure and chemical composition changes of scales of stainless steels AISI 304, AISI 316, AISI 420 and AISI 430, depending on the conditions of pickling in a reducing melt. These steels are analyzed using SEM and X-ray diffraction in various stages. The presented study includes evaluation of the used material microstructure, scales layers thickness measurements and weight changes during the pickling process. For a more detailed description of the pickling processes the analysis of pure iron, nickel and titanium were done. The results are summarized in the closing chapters. Pickling of stainless steels in reducing melt is a very good method of descaling.
