Abstract

A plaster showed at each historical stage a technical and cultural advancement of civilization and contributed to the creation of distinctive stylistic features. Apart from architectural feature, if the plaster was created by compact surface with surface treatment, the plaster also protects building from a negative impact of an external environment. Most of the historic buildings has been rebuild and reconstruct. Because of this, it is possible to detect layers from far historic periods, which have been covered by this adjustments. The simplest example of the date of historic plaster is for instance a detection of cement’s presence. Knowledge of traditional craft methods, technologies and use of contemporary materials also could protect monuments from non-refundable damages. This thesis presents the construction development and characteristics of building materials which are used in the production of plaster on historical buildings. A practical part describes the initiation of surveys of historic plaster Premonstratensian monastery with the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Želiv.
