Abstract

Computer networks have ever been playing an important role in the world of information systems. As the time has been passing by, their significance has been growing by the today’s status – a computer network is an indispensable part of every company and every household. There is also a constant growth of the possibilities allowing a user to monitor and control other computers completely over a network, getting almost any information through the Internet and further similar activities. Hand in hand with the extension of networks and their powers there is a higher danger of security breaks and that results in the increased difficulty of the administration of a computer network. In order to secure a network properly, one must have a vast base of knowledge and experience. Closer look on traffic is needed to be accounted for as well, especially when transferring sensitive data. This is the reason for using external components or libraries for data encryption, such as OpenSSL, which is being used by both casual users and corporations at present. This thesis should provide a background, a tutorial to create applications of the client/server type that use the library of OpenSSL for communication and perform the required operations on a client side. The control of the actions on a remote PC is considered to be one of those operations. Nowadays, there is actually no application that is complex enough to enable administrators to control all workstations remotely so that they can be relieved from a long, sometimes even pointless work. Thus, it is a kind of very interesting topic to be thoroughly researched.
