Abstract

The bachelor thesis is focused on the preparation and characterization of the photocatalytically active composites kaoline/ZnO. Composites kaoline/ZnO can be used in different applications, for example as an additive to paints, cement and other products in building industry, where as photocatalysts can positively affect pollution of living environment by the means of photodegradation of hazardous compounds occurring in water and air. At this kind of composites kaoline was used as a matrix and zinc oxide is photoactive component which was obtained after the heat treatment of precursor obtained after the reaction of zinc chloride with sodium carbonate and/or ammonium carbonate. Depending on the used carbonate two different initial precursors originate which decompose during the calcination and form zinc oxide. The first was hydrozincite, which was synthesized from zinc chloride and ammonium carbonate, and the second one was sodium-zinc carbonate trihydrate, which was prepared by reaction of zinc chloride and sodium carbonate. The final products were characterized using the method of chemical and phase analysis, and the morphology of the samples was studied using scanning electron microscopy. The prepared materials were examined by the test of photodegradation acivity.
