Demokratický deficit v Evropské unii a možnosti jeho odstranění

Abstract

The master thesis deals with democratic deficit in the EU. The aim of this work is to define the concept of democratic deficit and evaluate the possibilities for its weakening or elimination. Democratic deficit is a narrow concept with so many different views on it. The first dimension of democratic deficit is the institutional democratic deficit and it is reflection of unbalanced role of the national parliaments and the European Parliament in comparation with the European Commission and the Council of Europe. The second dimension of the democratic deficit is the sociological democratic deficit. This dimension suppose that EU cannot even be a democracy, since there is no european identity that would create a european demos.
