Abstract
The bachelor’s thesis focuses on the interaction between nanostructured neodymium oxide (Nd₂O₃) and the soil bacterium Bacillus subtilis. The main objective was to evaluate the antibacterial effect of this nanomaterial and to determine the influence of concentration, exposure time, and light conditions on its antibacterial activity.
The experimental part involved the determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) using the microdilution method at different exposure times (60–180 min and 24 h) and under various light regimes (dark conditions, UV-A radiation, and fluorescent illumination).
The results showed that short-term exposure did not lead to inhibition of bacterial growth, whereas prolonged exposure resulted in a significant antibacterial effect. The highest efficiency was observed under UV-A radiation. The mechanism of action is likely associated with the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
This study highlights the importance of investigating nanomaterials in terms of their potential applications as well as their environmental impacts.
