Abstract

This bachelor’s thesis addresses the issue of well water microbiology and the factors that influence its safety. It focuses on the characteristics of wells and well water from physical, chemical, and microbiological perspectives. It further describes the main sources of microbial contamination, their impacts on human health, and selected cases of contamination. The thesis also includes an overview of proper well water sampling and recommended microbiological analyses. The thesis summarizes the legislative requirements for the microbiological quality of drinking water in the Czech Republic and compares them with international standards. The concluding section is devoted to recommended preventive measures and options for treating well water to minimize the risk of contamination. The outcome of the thesis is a summary of recommendations useful for well owners and the professional community.
