Abstract

This work deals with the identification of anthropogenic impacts on the Olše river sediments, with a focus on heavy metals and metalloids. The SEM analysis proved occurence of magnetite in sediment, which derives from the parent rock (sharp-edged particles) and magnetite of anthropogenic nature (balls). Anthropogenic magnetite particles were detected in samples from the area no. 7 Olše Ropice and no. 8 WWTP Český Těšín. High levels of correlation coefficient were detected between Fe and other monitored elements including Pb. The correlation between the Fe oxides and Pb is not common, and it is typical for anthropogenic particles originating from the metallurgical industry. In the case of sediments positive correlation between Pb and Zr was proven, which derives only from natural sources. Contamination levels that would require remediation measures, has not been demonstrated. And the contents of hazardous elements exceeded value of geochemical anomaly only in samples from the profile no. 1 Olše - Spring (As and Pb) and profile no. 8 Olše- WWTP Český Těšín (Cr and Mn).
