Abstract
The Bachelor’s compilation thesis describes the complexity of aircraft transport; the first structural materials used in aircraft industry and the mechanical properties of the main metal materials. The main goal of the work is the overview of the latest composite materials used in the modern commercial aircraft. The special focus is given to the GLARE composite material, including a description of its production process. The properties of composite materials are compared with the characteristics of structural materials. The part of the thesis deals with fatigue damage of metal and composite materials. In the conclusion, the future development of progressive structural materials is outlined.
