Abstract

China is one of the leading economic powers. This is also confirmed by the fact that China has become the largest recipient of foreign direct investment in 2014. Despite all that China is facing a number of problems like corruption, environmental degradation and human rights violations. The title of this thesis is „Foreign direct investment from the EU countries and their impact on the socioeconomic development in China.“ The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the development of foreign direct investment flowing into China from the EU countries and demonstrate their contributions to another socioeconomic development of China. For achieving this aim, we will use the following methods: deduction, analysis, synthesis, description and comparison. This thesis is structured into three main chapters. In the first chapter we perform the theoretical definition of foreign direct investment and evaluate their positive and negative impacts, including the factors, which influence investment decisions. The second chapter focuses on a brief history of China and its current investment environment, including the development of trade and investment relations between China and the EU countries. The third chapter focuses on socioeconomic assessment of the current state of China and realized foreign direct investment in China which are arising from the EU countries.
