Abstract

This thesis tries to verify the efficiency of heat insulation of linings for a pour ladle in ArcelorMittal Inc. with goal to verify the functionality of the insulation of the linings in other campaigns. The research was devided into two parts – calculation part and experimental part The experimental part was based on observing pouring ladles in the steel plant of ArcelorMittal Inc. Observing consisted of measurement of the surface temperature via thermo-vision camera and optical pyrometer. Based on the measured data it was determined, that the insulated ladle has lower temperature during the first campaign than insulated ladles in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th campaign. The calculation part tries to determinate the temperature inside the lining of the pouring ladle. For this reason the mathematical equations of one-way stationary heat conduct in cylindrical shell were used. The calculations revealed that for the minimum thickness of lining Promalight the temperature could be 1000 °C. This temperature is stated by the manufacturer to cause degradation on the lining in long term application. Based on the data we can verify that at the beginning of the first campaign the insulation is all right. As the temperature grows in next campaigns the data show that the insulation suffers from high temperature. Dependent on various causes it may happen that the insulation can be partially or entirely damaged. That is why it is essential to make steps necessary to improve the functionality of the lining.
