Abstract
This thesis focuses on data transmission and communication using visible light in the field of smart homes. The thesis aims to uncover the problems associated with this technology, which has only recently begun to be studied in depth compared to some conventional technologies. The fact is that VLC can only partially replace these competing technologies, and it is important to focus on further development if visible light communication is to receive more attention. The following part of the document deals with the principle of operation of this technology, including hardware components and modulation formats. The components themselves that are used in the practical part are mentioned. The aim of this measurement is to test the possibilities of VLC technology for commercial purposes, e.g. in offices or family homes. The thesis investigates how large an area the used ceiling light can cover without any problems with information transmission, and compares these results with the results of a similar work, but using older components.
