Abstract

Nowadays rather quality than quantity is emphasized unlike in past. Companies thus invest in new technologies which impose higher requirements on the different workplaces which are indispensable for the respective technology. One of such changes is the planned implementation of vacuum steel treatment technology at ArcelorMittal Ostrava a.s. steelworks associated with higher requirements for the total pouring ladle service life. The steel presence in the pouring ladle will be longer and the steel temperature necessary for treatment will be higher. The thesis introduction providing a brief description of the present vacuum treatment principle and trends is followed by outline of the properties and parameters of refractory materials. The purpose of the technical section of the thesis is to propose a pouring ladle lining composition the properties of which would meet the higher demands for application. The proposal of new lining is based on information and data acquired from performance tests and calculations of heat losses due to the refractory lining. For the new production conditions and liquid steel processing method at ArcelorMittal Ostrava a.s., a pouring ladle with AMC material as working lining and andalusite as permanent lining in combination with new insulation plates was designed and put into trial Operation. The results of the performance test including determination of the pouring ladle insulation effect are included in the practical section of the thesis.
