SW pro automatizovanou detekci a kvantifikaci temporomandibulárních kloubů ze scintigrafických vyšetření

Abstract

This diploma thesis summarizes the fundamentals from the field of nuclear medicine and deals in detail with the quantification of temporomandibular joints for determination of unilateral condylar hyperplasia. This affects especially young people and teenagers, to whom it can cause asymmetry of the lower jaw and other problems. Quantification is performed by image processing of SPECT/CT images in MATLAB. The areas of the temporomandibular joints are extracted by active contours without edges out of four cumulative tomographic cuts through the skull. Extraction of these areas is solved by creating a binary mask, which is multiplied by the original image. Subsequently, calculations of SUV parameters and relative percentage absorption are performed in these areas of interest. Absorption in the condyle greater than 10 % versus absorption in the opposite condyle is used in clinical practice as the limit for the determination of active condylar hyperplasia. In the practical part, the created software is tested on artificial phantom data and compared with manual segmentation of the software used in clinical practice. Scintigraphic diagnostics is very useful in this regard unlike for example X-ray diagnostics, because it is able to evaluate the function, and moreover, at a very early stage, when X-ray changes may not be visible yet.
