Abstract

Thesis focuses on the means of measuring surface tension of colloidal solutions, contact angle and zeta potential. Surface characteristics on phase boundary solid – liquid – air and properties of dispersive systems have been outlined. The main task was to evaluate the suitability of each method for each studied variable. The sessile drop method was used to measure contact angle, whereas to determine surface tension, static method was used. Both methods were evaluated using optical device equipped with video camera and respective software. Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) technique was used to gauge electro-kinetic potential. Based on the analyses made it is possible to formulate the optimal sample treatment, in these case colloidal solutions made of sediments from wastewater treatment.
