Abstract
This thesis discusses the modernization of the hydraulic system for controlling the stoppers of casting streams, which are part of the metallurgical process known as continuous casting. This project was my responsibility as the lead designer in my professional role as an Instrumentation and Automation Control Systems designer. The main objective of the modernization was to upgrade the stopper position control system of the casting streams, along with the related hydraulic system.
The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part describes the technological process of continuous casting, along with the theory of control system, regulation principles, hydraulic systems, and the measurement of non-electrical quantities.
The practical part includes a description of the control system itself, the creation of project documentation, simulation, and testing of the stopper position control.
The conclusion provides an evaluation of the project after the implementation of the first phase and a comparison of the stopper control systems. The thesis also includes appendices. Annexes 1 to 7 are directly part of the thesis, Annexes 8 to 13 are external documents.
