Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of well control during a kick. It focuses mainly on the control of a well during the occurrence of a kick and on the procedures used in the so-called Driller’s Method. The theoretical part describes the basic principles of pressure conditions in the well. It also presents the causes of kicks, their warning signs, the barrier system, blowout prevention equipment, and the basic methods of well control. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the creation of a crisis-event scenario in the DrillSIM 50 drilling simulator environment. Within the simulation, a scenario of a kick occurring during drilling was created. Subsequently, the kick was detected, the well was safely shut in, and an attempt was made to control the situation using the Driller’s Method.
