Abstract
Now days there is increasing concern about the quality and safety of purchased food, also there is increasing the number of cases where a violation of basic standards in their production has been violated. Mainly because of errors caused by the food distributors. The aim is to map the evolution and current state of consumer protection in the area of food safety at both the Czech Republic and EU. This is essentially a legislative framework for this issue and responsibilities of the main institutions and organizations active in terms of quality and food safety. The work is based on research to identify problems in the area of food safety and quality and design recommendations.The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The theoretical part is devoted to consumer protection in general and on the national level and the EU. The chapter is a brief introduction to Czech and European consumer organizations, through their activities, to some extent, assist the authorities in their activities and assisting consumers. His positions are just sort of intermediary between the consumer and the national and European institutions.
Another chapter focuses on food quality and safety in terms of ensuring consumer protection. The chapter on this subject is viewed as a national and European perspective. Legislative standards and measures set out how to proceed in food production and what requirements must be met for food products that were eligible to be placed on the market. The chapter is also devoted space institutions and consumer organizations. The last chapter is devoted to the research - a survey that deals with consumer behavior when buying food.
