Abstract
Directional data are included in many research fields. Wind speed and direction are the most important variables for the efficient use of wind energy. Wind also significantly influences actual carrying capacity of power transmission lines. Therefore, it is important to know the annual wind direction distribution for specific location, for example where wind farms or power transmission lines are located.
In this thesis, a new method of wind direction distribution determination is presented. The statistical model is designed using circular von Mises distribution. Model parameters are estimated using search mechanism of evolutionary strategies. The quality of computed distribution is evaluated by Pearson's chi-squared test or by RMSE. The whole procedure is then tested using case study.
