Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to examine the influence of austenitizing temperature on the hardenability of steels which consist of different chemical composition. The theoretical part describes fundamentals of heat treatment, factors affecting hardenability of steels and hardenability tests. The practical part is focused on the application of Jominy hardenability test, hardness determination according to Rockwell hardness test method and metallographic evaluation of microstructure depending on the distance from the hardened front. The thesis also considers the influence of the upper and lower austenitizing temperature of steel material on hardening, i.e. obtained by quenching at least 50% martensite in the core of sample.
