Abstract

Software development should be controlled and organized activity leading to effective, correct and fast function of a product. It is enabled by complex procedures and instructions for development of software application – methodology of software project management. The requirements of customers, tough competitors, as well as other influences, like current economy crises, etc. are forcing software companies to develop software in a very short time sustaining the quality and functionality. To provide effective development, new methodologies are being introduced on the market. The purpose of my work was to introduce the classical methodologies of software development as well as the up to date, trendy methodologies of software engineering. An emphasis was put on the common features of individual methodologies, but also their structure, field of application, advantages and disadvantages. In the practical part of my paper, the tool Eclipse Process Framework (EPF) and realization of each of the methodologies in this software are described, and in the final part the use of the tool EPF Composer in the project of a real company is demonstrated.
