Abstract
The dissertation is focused on the economic evaluation of investment activities in the field of municipal waste processing. The aim of the dissertation is to verify the hypotheses in relation to the installation of a commercial facility that will process up to 50 thousand tonnes of municipal waste per year, with the assumed economic viability and operation in accordance with the current and future legislation. The location of the project is directed to the territorial competences of the Opava, Bruntál and Krnov municipalities.
The basic categories of waste and the system of their management and final waste processing are presented in the introductory part of the dissertation. Waste management issues are comprehensively described from the legislative and operational-technological aspects. Legislative requirements are defined according to European, national and regional rules. The description of the technologies includes the known and used procedures for the disposal of municipal waste. A very important part of the analytical documents are statistical data on municipal waste production and processing for the period 2012-2021, which is the initial reference period for predicting the future capacity of the proposed facility. Another important part of the work is the presentation of foreign experience, as well as opposing views on the installation of municipal waste processing facilities.
The second part of the dissertation is focused on the presentation of available technologies that could be used to process the target production of municipal waste in the area of interest. 16 options for the selected technologies are prepared and evaluated in accordance with the chosen methodology. The following methods are used to evaluate the potential investments: total income, net total income, average cash flow, return on sales, return on investment, average annual return, net present value, economic value added and payback period. The dissertation concludes with an evaluation which of the available options is the most economically advantageous.
