Abstract
This thesis deals with a complete design of lightning protection. The protected facility is a building of chemical industry with zones 1 and 2 of flammable vapor explosion danger. The thesis is based on four part set of standards ČSN EN 62305.
The theoretical part summarizes the history of contact of humans and lightning, as well as a brief description of protection from it. This part also analyzes the formation of atmospheric discharges, their types, physical properties and impacts. Further this part suggests the procedure of risk analysis, design and choice of lightning protection system and coordinated SPD system.
The practical part consists of four sections. The first section gives a detailed description of the facility in terms of technology, materials, dimensions and zones. Second section deals with analysis of risk of loss of human life and economic loss. Third section is a design of air-termination system by rolling sphere method, down conductors and earth-termination system. Last part deals with equipotential bonding and SPD system design.
