Abstract
This bachelor thesis deals with image preprocessing of calcaneus fracture, segmentation of callus from bone and soft tissue and subsequent evaluation of callus parameters (content, circumference, major axis and minor axis). In the theoretical part we will introduce problem with heel fracture and understanding the healing of heel fracture using periosteal callus and defining the applications of image segmentation for medical data. The practical part contains pre-processing of image data. Images have been modified for more efficient segmentation. In the pre-processing, the geometric transformation of the images was solved using the most similar points in a comparable images. The images could be further normalized. In the segmentation procedure, the active contour method was implemented, which, when set up correctly, determined whether it was possible to separate the periosteal callus from bone. In conclusion of work is the evaluation of the results of the size of the periosteal callus in time. We therefore monitor whether the dynamics of periosteal callus growth is in the context of bone healing.
