Abstract
This thesis deals with the issue of metallurgical waste disposal during production in oxygen converters and examines the possibilities of using silicon carbide briquettes to increase the efficiency of smelting. The main focus is on evaluating the influence of these briquettes on the thermal and material balance of the converter process, reducing the consumption of pig iron, and improving the slag composition. The theoretical part of the work includes an analysis of modern methods of utilizing metallurgical waste, the specifics of briquetting iron-containing materials, and the influence of silicon carbide on the physical and chemical processes in the converter. The experimental part includes a study of the physical and chemical properties of the briquettes, their strength, porosity, calorific value, and solubility in the metal bath. Modeling the converter smelting process made it possible to assess the potential benefits of using silicon carbide briquettes in production conditions.
