Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with the contribution of the installed hydraulic support to the piercing rolling stand of the Big Mannesmann, which is to support the billet during the whole piercing process and thus improve its output dimensional stability. A total of four billets were examined, two pierced with and two without hydraulic support. Based on the measured values, different graphs were created to get a better visual idea of the change in dimensions and wall thickness and then these billets were compared with each other. From the results obtained, we can say that hydraulic support helped to improve the dimensional stability of both billets, but much better results were obtained just for the largest billet studied, which was both longer and heavier.
