Abstract

The thesis focuses on the analysis of the preparedness of Emergency Medical Services and providers of acute inpatient care with established emergency departments in the Moravian‑Silesian Region for the management of mass casualty incidents. Particular attention is paid to anthropogenic emergencies, which represent a significant burden on the healthcare system in both the pre‑hospital and hospital phases of emergency medical care. The theoretical part of the thesis addresses the definition of emergencies, their classification, and the fundamental principles of disaster medicine. It further describes the legislative framework of healthcare crisis preparedness in the Czech Republic, the role of the Integrated Rescue System, typified activities of its components, and the importance of trauma plans of Emergency Medical Services and healthcare facilities. The theoretical section also includes an overview of the organization and operation of Emergency Medical Services and emergency departments during mass casualty incidents.
