Abstract

This thesis deals with a standard of living in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. It is purpose is to evaluate the standard of living in both states. Using methods of comparison and analysis of properly selected indicators, the country of higher standard of living is determined. In the theoretical part, basic terms related to this topic are clarified. The next part describes economic development of Czechoslovakia, both Czech part and Slovak part of the country are analysed individually. The practical part of this thesis is focused on indicators which are used to evaluate the standard of living in developed countries. This includes mainly income amounts from which extent of poverty, material deprivation, expenditure and consumption are derived. Attention is also paid to labour market, inflation and gross domestic product (GDP).
