Abstract
The aim of this thesis was to propose a system for the identification of billets using industrial camera and its verification in real operation. The proposed system is based on a method of the identifier sensing in the form of billets numeric code. The system was proposed in fully automatic mode using industrial camera and AXIS Media Control SDK software. This combination allows the numeric identifiers of the billets sensing and storing in the database on the server. The basic idea of the new proposed system has been software programmed. The software controls the selected camera functions and interacts with the programmable controller to control the movement of billets into the production line so that in a defined place the billets can stop and the pictures can be saved. The system was installed and tested on the small-section mill of the company Třinecké železárny. During the test period the system was optimized and the drawbacks were eliminated. Currently the system is fully functional and it complies the requirements of the operation. The next objective of the thesis was a test of optical character recognition of billets numeric characters by using the selected programs. The testing results have shown that the programs were not able to recognize numeric characters in a usable quality and the programs could not be useful for these purposes.
