Abstract
The aim of this diploma work is to analyze the entry of Slovakia into the monetary union by the appreciation of the nominal and real convergence of Slovakia to the euro area, the current economic situation in Slovakia after its entry into the monetary union, the consequences of entry, the costs and benefits of membership in a monetary union but also to draw conclusions that I researched.
Diploma work is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter monitors developments in the field of monetary cooperation in Europe from its earliest beginnings to its present form. The second chapter focuses on the nominal convergence of Slovakia. This chapter also contains a summary of the overall fullfilment of the maastricht criteria of Slovakia according three reports of convergence by the European Central Bank. The third chapter contains an analysis of Slovakia to adopt the euro. There is an evaluated real convergence of Slovakia and economic situation after the entry into the European Union to the present, the integration of Slovakia into the European Union, and way from the entry into the Union, to adopt a common currency. In this chapter, is also an important analysis of costs and benefits of Slovakia in relation to the changeover to the euro. Chapter also mentions the consequences of the introduction of the euro and the current situation in Slovakia as a result of the ongoing economic crisis. The finish of this chapter also contains a practical expression of own opinion on the subject. Analysis is supplemented with interesting charts, tables or images for a better illustration of this issue.
