Steering by Wire for Sport Car

Abstract

The steer by wire system involves the control of tires by the use of wires without any mechanical connection. The main objective of this thesis work was to study about the existing system and the ways by which it can be improved. First work was to find the forces acting on the system and to design an independent steering wheel based on standard car steering wheel, with integrated torque response and to design a steering servo unit to steer the both tires independently. The real time microcontroller was chosen and the control unit was designed. Finally the unit steer by wire system was tested and suitable controller was identified. The work mainly dealt with the front wheel steering and this can be improved to all wheel steering with more redundant safety system.
