Abstract
The study is focused on possibilities of increase in steel microcleanness at the application of ceramic filters. Firstly, the bachelor thesis explains the role and basic principle of filtration. Subsequently, the basic types of filters are defined, along with the correct use of filters. The main part of the work is focused on literary analysis. It deals with the comparison of two types of newly-developed foam filters. The characteristic of the filters properties before and after the filtration trials were done. In the next part the literary analysis is dealt with Al2O3 inclusions. They were produced by the addition of pure Al to the oxidized metal and filtrated throught the three different types of filters. The final part of the literary analysis describes two ways how to apply coating on the filters and improve its properties. The first exploits the reaction of carbon-bonded alumina–magnesia filters when immersed in a steel melt at about 1650 °C. Next, multi-walled carbon nanotubes are applied on carbon-bonded alumina filters by means of spray coating to increase the reactivity of the surface.
