Abstract

VODIČKOVÁ, Klára. Devices for Detecting Ionizing Radiation Suitable for Firefighters. Ostrava, 2026. Bachelor thesis. VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, The Faculty of Safety Engineering, The Department of Fire Protection. Supervisor: Ing. Adam Thomitzek, Ph.D. This bachelor thesis is devoted to the issue of ionizing radiation detection equipment suitable for fire protection units. The theoretical part of the thesis briefly presents the legal framework and the physical nature of ionizing radiation, mechanisms of its interaction with matter, and a detailed analysis of the design principles of the detectors used. The practical part of the work is focused on the analysis and evaluation of the technical equipment currently available to the units, including a proposal for the modernization of detection technology using RadEye series radiometers to improve operational readiness and safety during incidents involving radiation.
