Abstract

This bachelor thesis is focused on the preparation and characterization of the antibacterial chlorhexidine/kaolinite composites. Two series of composite materials were prepared. In the first case, kaolinite was used as the carrier for antibacterial drug and in the second case, kaolinite modified with dimethyl sulfoxide was used. In both series chlorhexidine dihydrochloride acts as an active antibacterial component. The resultant samples were characterized by X – ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The antibacterial activity of prepared composites against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and against yeast Candida albicans were evaluated by finding minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). It was found that all prepared composites have an excellent ability to inhibit bacterial moreover yeast growth and therefore they are very antimicrobial effective.
