Abstract
The bachelor thesis is focused on the study of the behaviour of slags from iron and steel production in contact with the water environment. The theoretical part describes the production of iron and steel and the formation of different types of slag. For the experimental part, blast furnace, steelmaking and pan slags were used, which were collected shortly after their formation and after at least one year of landfilling in a hall or open area. Chemical analysis of the slags was carried out and aqueous leachates were prepared with different ratios of slag to deionised water used (1:10, 1:100, 1:250, 1:500, 1:1000) and mixed for 24 hours. The time dependence of leaching was carried out for selected slags with a solid-liquid phase ratio of 1:100. The concentrations of Al, Na, K, Mg, Ca and Si in the aqueous leachates were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry and flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The results show that these elements are more strongly transferred to the aqueous environment from fresh slags and an amount of elements in the leachate is strongly dependent on the ratio of the slag used to the volume of deionized water. Dissolution of the elements of interest occurs within a few tens of minutes. Of the pan slags, mayenite (Ca12Al14O33) clearly dissolves on contact with water.
