Abstract
Composite is the term identifying a heterogeneous material consisting of at least two various mate-rial components, the properties of which not only cannot be achieved by any of the components separately, but also could not be achieved by simple summation of these components’ properties. Such effect is called synergic effect and it is decisive for the identification what is and what is not a composite. The basic compo-nent of a composite with plastic matrix is a thermoplastic or a thermoset, forming, in many cases, the major part of the composite. In it there is embedded one or more usually discontinuous components called reinforcement, which is much stronger and more rigid than the matrix. The reinforcement consists of fibres or particles. The matrix serves for the transfer of tension back to the fibres and for the protection of the fibres against external effects (corrosion, mechanical damage etc.). Heat-conducting polymers based on composites are commonly prepared by inserting heat-conducting fill in the polymer matrix. Excellent heat conductivity of CNT is a promising way of producing highly heat-conductive composites on the basis of polymers. As electronic devices tend to get slenderer and more integrated, heat conduction becomes the main problem in the area of design of devices and their applications. On the basis of the existing knowledge, CNT continue to belong among the most promising materials, usable as the heat-conducting fill of polymers. Further research is still necessary, however, so that thus created composites achieve a sufficient efficiency as required in the market.
