Abstract

This diploma thesis is focused on the material property hardness and how is this kind of property measured. The hardness value is actually described as the material`s resistance against to enter of a foreign body to a certain surface. Based on this definition there is described a various methods of measuring and determining of this mechanical property. One of the possible measuring method is so-called instrumental test. The principle of this method is to determine the actual applied force depending on the depth of used indentor. The result of this dependence is so-called instrumental curve. Based on these results, other mechanical properties (e.g. Rm – tensile strength, Re - yield strength) can be calculated and are known. The experimental part of diploma is focused on determining the hardness profile for real operated steam piping by portable instrumental hardness tester MABIT V1.0. The results are re-measured by optometric method and stationary hardness tester for overall comparison of the measurements to be sure by accuracy of results.
