Abstract
The focus of this thesis is an experimental study of the effect of an increase of temperature and addition of CO2 on explosion characteristics of a mixture of methane and air. Firstly, the thesis presents a summary of the results of the research conducted in this area and published in prestigious scientific journals. The theoretical part is then dedicated to underlying theories and principles, the description of the experimental apparatus and the experiment itself, and to the numerical model results. The experiment was conducted with certified lab equipment; therefore, its results are valid as per the current standard and can be replicated. The data produced by the experiment are then compared with the obtained numerical data, visualized in graphs and accompanied by an analysis of the possible causes for the differences in the experimental and numerical data sets. Lastly, the potential application of the results in the field of health and safety is included, as well as a final evaluation of the effect of the increase of temperature and inerting with carbon dioxide on the explosion characteristics of the mixture of methane and air.
